ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell women's tennis has a double match weekend at the Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red will play St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2:00 p.m. and Siena on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 12:00 p.m.
The Big Red are coming into the weekend of play 3-2 overall after going 2-1 in the ECAC Indoor Championship.
LAST TIME OUT: WOMEN'S TENNIS EARNS FIFTH AT ECAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Cornell women's tennis defeated Dartmouth 4-3 at the ECAC Indoor Championships to earn fifth place in the tournament.
The Big Red came out to a hot start as they went 2-1 in doubles play. Alexandra Savu and Michelle Ryndin defeated Elise Wong and Elizabeth Fahrmeier 7-6(5). Dartmouth came back when Michela Moore and Peyton Capuano defeated Victoria Zhao and Sage Loudon 6-2. The Big Red then earned the doubles point with a win from Jenny Wong and Andrea Martinez defeated Sam Grossjean and Brooke Hess.
With Cornell up 1-0, singles play began. Ryndin defeated Capuano in three sets 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(5), Zhao defeated Moore 6-4, 6-4 to put the Big Red up 3-0. Dartmouth came back with Grosjean defeating Loudon 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, Lauren Han defeating Emma Baker 6-4, 6-1 and Caroline Lemcke defeating Wong 6-2, 7-5 to tie the match at 3. Andrea Martinez secured Cornell the win with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Brooke Hess.
The Big Red exited the tournament on a two-game winning streak which it hopes to extend this weekend as it takes on both St. Bonaventure and Siena this coming weekend.
