ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's hockey senior goaltender
Ian Shane has been named ECAC Hockey's MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning.
The honor is Shane's second time being tabbed ECAC Hockey's top goaltender of the week and is his first time selected since Nov. 4 after he backstopped the Big Red to its sweep of then-No. 6-ranked North Dakota in its season-opening series at Lynah Rink.
Shane stopped 40 of 44 shots (.909 save percentage) during the Big Red's weekend sweep of Brown and Yale, serving as one of two ECAC Hockey goaltenders to have two wins on the weekend, joined by Harvard freshman Ben Charette.
The pair of victories posted by Shane increased his career total to 59, surpassing Andy Iles '14 for the fifth-most wins by a Cornell goaltender in program history. Shane's 40 saves upped his career total to 2,136 saves, only seven stops from tying Darren Eliot '83 (2,143 saves) for the eight-most saves in program history.
In last Friday's win over Brown, Shane made 17 saves before stopping 23 shots in Cornell's triumph over Yale.
Across his 13 appearances against the pair of Ivy League rivals, Shane has a combined 10-1-2 record with a 1.14 goals-against average and .935 save percentage.
Shane and the Big Red will return to action at Lynah Rink this weekend when it hosts Empire State rivals Clarkson (18-9-3, 12-5-1 ECAC Hockey) and St. Lawrence (9-19-2, 5-11-2 ECAC Hockey). Puck drop for Friday night's game with the Golden Knights is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday's meeting with the Saints is slated for a 6 p.m. start. The action of both games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and over the airwaves on WHCU (870 AM, 97.7 FM, cortacatoday.com).
