PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Cornell fencing team had a solid 1-2 effort on day one of the 2025 Ivy League Fencing Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Palestra. The Big Red moved to 33-13 on the season.
Cornell suffered a pair of losses to national powers Harvard and Princeton to begin the day, falling to the No. 1 and No. 4 ranked teams in the country. It bounced back in a big way with a narrow 15-12 victory over Brown to close out the evening, earning a 6-3 win in epee.
The top individual performer on day one was
Nora Weber in epee, posting a 6-2 individual record and a +6 touch margin. She was the lone Big Red fencer with a positive touch margin against many of the nation's top fencers. Both
Renata Chusid and
Rei Weintraub were 4-4 with the foil to rank in the top six with the weapon after four rounds.
The Big Red will fence three more matches on Sunday, meeting No. 3 Columbia at 12:15 p.m. before meeting the host Penn Quakers at 1:30 p.m. and No. 12 Yale following that at 2:45 p.m. Cornell owns triumphs over both Penn and Yale this season.
