Box Score THE BRONX, N.Y. -- Senior All-American Radu Paope won the featured match of the day, but No. 37 Yale defeated No. 24 Cornell 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Cary Leeds Tennis Center. The Big Red dropped to 8-4 on the season with the defeat, while the Bulldogs improved to 8-3.
Papoe, ranked No. 40 in the country in the latest ITA national rankings, dominated No. 75 Vignesh Gogineni, needing just 46 minutes to dispatch his opponent at the No. 1 spot by a 6-0, 6-1 score. That proved to be the high-water mark for the Big Red, as the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, then answered Papoe's win to kick off singles with three consecutive victories to earn the team triumph.
Cornell returns to action on Sunday, March 2 at 10 a.m. on the same courts when it meets VCU.
