Softball Host Second Home Series Against Dartmouth This Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell softball (9-8, 1-2 IVY) prepare to host Dartmouth (9-9, 3-0 IVY) at new times on Friday and Saturday at Niemand-Robison Softball Field.

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH

Dartmouth is .500 going 9-9 through their first half of the season most recently defeating Brown in all three opening Ivy games.

At the plate, Alaana Panu is leading the Big Green with a .356 batting average. She is has hit eight doubles, third most in the league, and leads the league in stolen bases with nine.

Jenis Hall and Isabel Kirby are each in the top five for lowest ERA. Hall has recorded a 1.90 over 54.1 innings and six complete games. Kirby has appeared in eight games pitching a 2.78 ERA over the 27.2 innings.

IVY STANDINGS

Dartmouth currently sits at the top of the Ivy after defeating Brown in all three games of their Ivy opening series this past weekend. Dartmouth is one of three Ivys still perfect in conference play including Columbia and Princeton.

Harvard has the best overall record of 11-7 (.611), however fell to Princeton in all three games of the opening Ivy series.

Cornell leads the league with a .339 batting average and on base percentage .415 with Ella Harrod as the third best individual holding a .414 batting average.

Lauren Holt is third in slugging percentage (.750) and fourth in on-base percentage (.483), RBIs (18) and home runs (5).

STARTING UP STREAKS

Emma Antich currently holds the longest hitting streak for the Big Red with hits in seven straight games. Emma Harshberger follows up behind her with a five-game streak.

Charlize Cai and Holt lead the team in games with multiple RBIs with four each. Holt has batted in 18 runs while Cai scored 17.

LAST SERIES

The Big Red put together hot bats over the three games against Yale with 37 hits and 32 runs.

In the first game of the weekend, Holt was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, while Emma Harshberger posted a pair of singles along with a walk. Besides the three-run shot by Holt, Emma Antich also plated a run with a double in the second to cut Yale's lead to 5-1.

Cornell flipped the script in the second game of the day jumping out to a 21-0 lead after just three innings. Included was a record 17-run third that lasted an hour and saw the Big Red collect 13 hits. Six different players had multi-hit efforts, with Addison Pressley (3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored) posting three hits. Cai was 4-for-4 in the game with four runs scored and three RBI. Holt homered in the second and third innings after blasting a three-run shot in game one. Maddie Ullensvang and Antich scored three times, with Ullensvang hitting her first career home run.

With the series tied up, Cornell totaled 12 hits in the final matchup led by Addison Pressley and Ella Harrod each going 3-for-4 at the plate. Harrod smacked a home run over the left field fence to earn two RBIs in her first at bat of the afternoon. Yale pulled away in the fourth inning with a three-run outburst. Isabella Fortini delivered a two-run double to break the tie, and SJ Mull added an RBI single to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 7-3. The Big Red started its rally in the bottom of the sixth with Harrod driving in two more runs to trim the deficit to 8-6. Cornell would add one more run but fall short with runners on base for Yale to take the series 2-1.

UP NEXT

A quick turnover, Cornell will host Colgate for a midweek double header on Tuesday April 1 starting at 1:30 p.m.
