FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Cornell swimmer
Pietro Ubertalli competed in three events (100 back, 200 back, and 200 IM) during the 2025 NCAA Championships from March 26-29 at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center, becoming the first Cornellian since Ilya Exdokimov '18 to swim on the national stage. Ubertalli's performances were led by the 200-yard backstroke, where he broke his own school record that he set at Ivies and earned Second Team All-American Honorable honors. The Big Red finished 37th in the final team score rankings, with Ubertalli notching six points for Cornell.
"The goal coming into this meet was to earn a finals swim, and in doing so earn either All-America or second-team All-America (Honorable mention All-America). Ubertalli swam 1:39.36 in the preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke, qualifying for the consolation final as the 11th seed. In the evening session, he improved his time to 1:39.22, placing 11th overall and scoring six points for Cornell. He also competed in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing 35th with a time of 45.84 seconds, and the 200-yard individual medley, placing 26th in 1:42.60.
