ITHACA, N.Y. -- A three-match week awaits the Cornell women's tennis team as the Big Red faces Central New York foe Le Moyne before hitting the road for Ivy matches against Yale and Brown. The Big Red welcomes the Dolphins to the Reis Tennis Center on Wednesday, April 2 at 4 p.m. to start the week. It then returns to action at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m. before closing the week on Sunday, April 6 at Brown's Indoor Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
The Big Red brings a 9-4 record into the week and has won eight of its last 10 matches despite its 4-0 loss to No. 71 Columbia the last time out. Three Big Red players own eight singles wins with sophomore
Michelle Ryndin posting an 8-4 mark while seeing a majority of her action at No. 1 singles. Both
Sage Loudon (8-6) and
Andrea Martinez De Los Rios (8-2) have matched Ryndin's win total, while three others have six or more wins for head coach
Katie Zordani's squad.
Le Moyne's record stands at 7-7 and has dropped three of its past four matches prior to Wednesday's contest. Ninth-year head coach Jeff Lonczak's team is paced by Isabella Barnona (8-4) and Ella Fernando (12-11) in the middle of the lineup. The doubles team of Fernando and Feriel Mahbouli are 12-7 at the No. 1 position.
The weekend will bring the return of Ivy play, with the Big Red heading to No. 59 Yale on Saturday before it's off to Brown on Sunday. The Bulldogs are led by Orly Ogilvy, No. 108 in the latest ITA rankings for head coach Rachel Kahan. Yale is 9-7 and will be looking to snap a four-game skid when the two teams meet. Lucie Schmidhauser's Bears, meanwhile, are 9-7 on the year behind the play of Bella Hu (14-6) and Ali Maguy (13-7). The Big Red defeated Brown 4-2 last season at home, with the Bulldogs earning a 4-1 victory over the Big Red in its 2024 season finale.
