Softball Splits Midweek Non-Conference Games at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. –Cornell softball (16-16, 6-9 IVY) splits a midweek double header against Binghamton (26-12) on the road. The Big Red finishes the season 10-7 in non-conference play with only six Ivy League games remaining.

Game One Cornell 2, Binghamton 6

Binghamton started the double header off with two hits that resulted in a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Cornell would strike next in the top of the third inning with a single from Addison Pressley and a walk from Lauren Holt before Charlize Cai would slap a RBI double into the left field to score Cornell's first run.

The Bearcats added another run with an RBI double of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Holt and Cai got onto base in the top of the fifth then executed a double steal to put two runners into scoring position. Maddie Ullensvang reached the base on a passed ball as Holt scored on the throw to cut the lead to 2-4.

 Binghamton added two more runs in the sixth before giving Cornell one more chance at the plate. Holt and Hailey Pirkey added two more hits in a late rally effort but were left on. Binghamton takes the first game 6-2.

Game Two Cornell 4, Binghamton 1

Both teams started scoreless through the first two innings as the Bearcats put the first run on the board.

At the top of the fourth, Sydney Stapf knocked her third home run of the season over the left field fence to score two and give Cornell its first lead of the day at 2-1.

Samantha Albert got on base with a walk before she stole second then advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to give Cornell the 3-1 advantage after five.

Emma Antich made her way to third base in the seventh inning with Pressley on first. Pressley went to steal second as Antich took off for home to add one more in a close play at the plate.

Kyrie Denny pitched her seventh complete game to pick up her eighth win of the season from the circle.

GAME NOTES

  • Emma Harshberger has gone 10 consecutive games without a strikeout batting in the third slot.
  • Cornell totaled 5 stolen bases over the two games.
  • Cornell snapped Binghamton's nine game winning streak.
  • Cornell is 2-0 in night games this season.
  • After Wednesday's games, Cornell's all-time record against Binghamton moved to 17-15.
