Top-Ranked Men’s Lacrosse Dispatches Yale 21-14, Advances to Ivy League Championship

ITHACA, N.Y. — Sophomore Ryan Goldstein and seniors CJ Kirst and Michael Long combined for 25 points as top-ranked Cornell defeated Yale 21-14 in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal Friday at Schoellkopf Field. The win advances the Big Red to their fifth Ivy Tournament championship game and first since 2018.

Goldstein finished with five goals and three assists while Kirst, the NCAA's all-time leading goal scorer, added three goals and six assists for Cornell (13-1), which extended its winning streak to nine games.
Long contributed four goals and four assists as Cornell's high-powered offense continued its dominant play, scoring the program's most goals in Ivy Tournament action and withstanding two-plus hours of lightning delays.

Yale (5-8) was led by Max Krevsky natural hat trick and Brad Sharp and Chris Lyons who netted two goals and an assist for the Bulldogs.

Cornell jumped out to a 6-5 lead after the first quarter and extended their advantage to 12-9 at halftime. The 12 first-half goals for the Big Red matched their season high and marked the eighth time they scored double-digit goals in the opening 30-minutes of a game this season.

With the score 14-12 in favor of Cornell in the third period, the Big Red would ore three times in a 2:22 second span to take a 17-12 lead moments before the second lightning delay of the evening.

Cornell would add four more goals in the final stanza to give the game its 21-14 final.

Junior Jack Cascadden dominated at the faceoff X, winning 16-of-38 draws, propelling the faceoff specialist into fourth in the single-season record books with 207, while adding 13 ground balls. Senior Wyatt Knust made 14 saves in goal for Cornell.

The Big Red, who completed a two-game sweep of Yale this season after winning 19-14 in New Haven on March 22, will look to capture their third Ivy Tournament championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN2.
