Women's Track and Field Bring It Home for the Big Red Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's track and field team is set to host its first home meet of the season when they welcome three teams and multiple individuals to the Big Red Invitational at Kane Sports Complex on May 4 as a final tune up before Ivy Outdoor Championships.

The Big Red Invitational will kick off at 11 a.m. with field events before track events get started at 11:30 a.m.

Syracuse, Niagara, and Hamilton will face the Big Red.

Senior day activities will be held after the meet at approximately 4 p.m. Alexa Barton, Avery Brull, Noelle Elkinton, Laini McGonigle, Maddie Packer, Glenn Parker, Margaux Rawson, Charli Stewart, Tia Taylor, Aniyah Walters and Jada Smith will be the seniors to look out for this weekend.

THE RANKINGS

Cornell women's track and field drop to third in the Northeast region of the USTFCCCA Regional Track & Field Rating Index and fourth in the Ivy League.

The women's team is ranked in the top 25 in four different events. The heptathlon group remains in the top 10, ranking this week at seventh. Jumps remain in the rankings for the fifth week with pole vaulters at 13th, high jump at 21st and triple jump coming in at 25th.

With her newest school record, Avery Hilliard is tied for 25th nationally in the pole vault with a 4.31m mark.

LAST TIME OUT

Cornell found success in multiple events at the elite Penn Relays in Philadelphia this past weekend.

Avery Hilliard posted a career-best clearance of 4.31m in the pole vault. The mark earned her a top regional standing, placing 10th in the East Region according to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Poll. Fellow vaulter Quincy Hansen matched her personal best with a clearance of 4.11 meters, earning an eighth-place finish. Hansen's performance elevated her to third all-time on Cornell's outdoor list.

In the distance medley relay, the quartet of Augustine Haquet, Katja Jackson, Tenley Nelson, and Gwen Parks etched their names into the record books, clocking 11:10.86 to break the program's 18-year-old record and place seventh overall. The 4x100m relay team of Jada Smith, Takiya Henson, Natasha Redmond, and Imani Reid delivered a fast 45.49 to finish 14th, moving to fourth all-time in program history.

Avery Hastings took second place in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.70m, earning a podium finish.

On the hurdles, Elise Sawyer ran a personal-best 59.56 seconds in the 400m hurdles, finishing 15th and moving up to seventh all-time in program history.

In the distance events, Mairead Clas clocked a personal-best 16:10.40 in the 5000m, to place 10th overall. Her time ranks fourth all-time at Cornell.

UP NEXT

Cornell will travel to Yale for the Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships on May 10-11 at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex and the Dwyer Track.
