PENNSAUKEN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The No. 14-ranked Cornell men's heavyweight rowing team swept all three races against No. 21-ranked Oregon State after losing four of five races to No. 8-ranked Penn on the Cooper River on Saturday.

Opening the day's competition against its Ivy League rival, Cornell's lone victory came in the 5V8+ race, which edged the Quakers' crew by 1.2 seconds. All four of Penn's victories came by at least five seconds, highlighted by its 9.9-second victory in the Madeira Cup race, clocking a time of 5:32.7, ahead of Cornell's 5:42.6 piece.

Penn won the Madeira Cup for a second consecutive season, marking the first time it retained the trophy since posting seven straight victories between 1995 and 2001. It was the Quakers' first time winning the Madeira Cup on home waters since 2007.

The 9.9-second victory for Penn was the largest margin of victory in the 1V8+ race since 2019, when Cornell won by 12.1 seconds. It was Penn's largest victory over Cornell since winning by 15.1 seconds in 1998.

Returning to the water following an hour break from racing, Cornell opened with a 4.9-second victory over Oregon State in the 3V8+, clocking a time of 5:49.1. The Big Red also deployed a 4V8+ and 5V8+ crew, with respective times of 6:01.3 and 6:21.1.
