ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell's
Damian Hackett will close out a storybook senior season when he competes at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday, June 11 at 4:21 p.m. PT in his heat of the 1,5000 meter run. Hackett will attempt to advance to Friday's championship final at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Hackett will start off in position two in the second semifinal. The 1,500 will be the third event contested on the opening day of competition. He most recently is coming off a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division I East First Round with a 3:39.67 in the finals after taking third at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships with a 3:43.47. His best time this season came at the Raleigh Relays in March when he went 3:36.78 for his college-best mark.
This is his second NCAA championships appearance in the 1,500 meters outdoors, running 23rd overall a year ago after posting a time of 3:43.34 in the semifinals. He claimed a Heps title in the event earlier in the spring in 3:43.52.
Hackett will run in the second heat with Princeton's Harrison Witt (3:38.83), the Heps champion in the event who comes in with the second-fastest time in Division I this season behind only Georgetown's Abel Teffra (3:38.65). Gary Martin of Virginia (3:38.94) is the only other runner to cross the line in the event faster than Hackett this season.
The top five runners in each heat, plus the next two fastest overall, will make up the 12-runner final that will be run on Friday, June 13 at 5:12 p.m. PT.
