ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's heavyweight rowing sophomore
Tony Klar and senior
Geoffrey Miller were both named Empacher-IRCA All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) last week.
Klar earned Second Team All-American honors, while Miller was an Honorable Mention All-American.
"For the fifth year in a row, our sport has acknowledged its athletes with All-American honors and we are excited to offer our congratulations to all of the well-deserving rowers and coxswains who have distinguished themselves as some of the top performers in men's collegiate rowing,"
wrote the IRCA in its release.
Student-athletes nominated by their institutions are eligible to be named an Empacher-IRCA All-American after meeting all eligibility rules set by their institution, rowing in their team's varsity boat for the current spring racing season, and having the head coach of the student-athlete's institution in good standing with the IRCA.
IRCA Board of Directors then selected First, Second, and Honorable Mention All-Americans based on the strength of the institution's varsity boat finish, the nomination rank within the institution, comments from coaches, individual achievements, and erg score.
Klar and Miller, who helped Cornell secure first-place finishes against Drexel (March 29), Holy Cross (May 2), and Oregon State (May 3), were among 104 student-athletes who met the criteria and were named to either the First, Second, or Honorable Mention All-Americans. A total of 43 programs were represented, including 37 heavyweight teams and six lightweight teams.
In addition to Miller and Klar's All-American honors, nine members of the Cornell men's heavyweight rowing team received Empacher-IRCA Scholar-Athlete Awards,
as announced by the IRCA last Wednesday.
To be eligible for the Empacher-IRCA Scholar-Athlete Award, student-athletes must be from an IRCA member school, be at least a sophomore, have competed in their program's top three boats or raced at the 2025 IRA Championship, and maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA through the fall semester.
