RV Big Red Handles Binghamton 5-0

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Binghamton Bearcats 5-0 on Tuesday night from Bearcats Sports Complex. The Big Red improved to 6-1-0, while the Bearcats dropped to 4-7-0.

The Big Red set an explosive pace and continued that throughout the contest. Sam Latona, Giorgos Diakos, Blake Donahue, Wilson Carnevale, and Sergio Zapata registered goals for the Big Red. Daniel Samways (three), Connor Miller (two), Dominic Kobl, and Diakos were credited with assists in the contest.

Big Red net-minders Ryan Friedberg (81 minutes) and Ryan Thompson (9 minutes) saw action between the pipes, maintaining the shutout for Cornell.

"I thought it was a really professional performance both sides of the ball today. We began the game attacking aggressively and did a good job of maintaining a good level throughout the game, which saw us capitalize with some very good goals" said John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer.

Latona scored in the 19th minute, followed by a second Big Red goal from Diakos in the 20th minute to get the avalanche started for Cornell. Donahue tacked on another one as the first half expired to give the Big Red a 3-0 lead.

Carnevale added a tally in the 66th minute, followed by another insurance goal by Zapata who potted his third in two games. Before being replaced by Ryan Thompson in net, Friedberg held strong for 80 minutes of game action and moved to 6-1-0 between the pipes.
