ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's volleyball team is set for its 2025 home opener on Tuesday, September 9, squaring off against Colgate at 7:30 p.m. in Newman Arena.
The Big Red returns to Ithaca after opening the season at the UAlbany Invitational, where they went 1-2 against a competitive field. Cornell picked up its first win of the fall over Canisius while testing themselves in hard-fought battles against UAlbany and Syracuse. The early slate has provided Coach Trudy Vande Berg's squad with a clear picture of the growth ahead — and the Big Red enters Tuesday hungry to make a statement on its home floor.
Scouting Colgate
Colgate enters Tuesday's matchup with a 2–4 record on the season, averaging 10.5 kills per set as a team. Junior outside hitter Milan Bayless has powered the Raider attack, tallying 87 kills and averaging 3.78 per set while hitting .177 through the first two weeks of play. Junior setter Deren Cukur has been the offensive catalyst, dishing out 185 assists at a 7.71 per set clip.
The Raiders claimed the last meeting between the programs on Sept. 9, 2023, taking a 3–1 win in Hamilton. Cornell will aim to flip the script this time around and secure its first victory over Colgate in two years in front of the Newman Arena crowd.
