Avery Hilliard beats Cornell Pole Vault Record

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's indoor track and field team delivered a strong all-around performance Saturday inside Barton Hall at the Southern Tier Invite, highlighted by a pair of school records and competitive depth across every event group.

Junior Avery Hilliard headlined the day in the pole vault, clearing a school-record height by one centimeter to claim the event win and etch her name atop Cornell's all-time list (at 12.07m). On the track, junior Francine Stevens continued her standout start to the season by tying the program record in the 300-meter dash, finishing first in a time of 39.04.

Cornell also saw a notable mark in the jumps, where Anika Sukumar moved into seventh place on the program's all-time list in the triple jump with a winning effort of 12.27 meters. The performance added to a productive day for the Big Red in the horizontal jumps.

The Big Red showcased depth throughout the meet, with Cornell athletes competing in every event on the schedule. Strong performances spanned sprints, middle distance, distance, relays, hurdles and field events, as the home squad continued to build momentum early in the indoor season.

Saturday's meet marked Cornell's second competition of the indoor campaign. The Big Red will return to action next Saturday, January 17, when it hosts the Upstate Challenge at Barton Hall.
