Khubchandani Gets Revenge, Yee Advances to Ramsay Cup Quarterfinals

| By:
NEW YORK — After being eliminated by Stanford's Madison Ho in the consolation semifinals of the CSA Individual Championships each of the last two seasons, senior Aishwarya Khubchandani finally got her revenge on Friday afternoon.

Khubchandani defeated Ho in a hard-fought four-game battle, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7, 13-11, in the opening round of this year's tournament at Open Squash - FiDi. Meanwhile, junior Xin Ying Yee advanced to the quarterfinals of the Ramsay Cup with a four-game victory of her own.

The win over Ho marked a breakthrough moment for Khubchandani, who had seen her previous two championship runs end at the hands of the Stanford player. Khubchandani later fell to second-seeded Malak Khafagy of Penn in straight games, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7, in the round of 32.

Yee, seeded seventh in the Ramsay Cup, posted a 11-7, 11-13, 11-6, 11-5 victory over Princeton's Caroline Eielson in the round of 32 after receiving a first-round bye. She will face Trinity's Thanusaa Uthrian on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the round of 16.

Cornell also saw action from freshman Vicky Lai and senior Alysa Ali on Friday. Lai defeated Colby's Laavanya Kugan in four games in the round of 64 before falling to fifth-seeded Charlotte Pastel of Virginia, 11-1, 11-3, 11-0. Ali posted a straight-game victory over Columbia's Yeheni Kuruppu before dropping her round of 32 match to third-seeded Caroline Fouts of Harvard, 11-6, 11-4, 11-3.

Lai, Ali and Khubchandani will continue competition in consolation play on Saturday. Ali has already advanced to the semifinals after receiving a win by default over Stanford's Mariana Narvaez Dardon, while Lai and Khubchandani will compete in quarterfinal matches.
