NEW YORK — Seveth-seeded
Xin Ying Yee's run at the CSA Individual Championships came to an end Saturday afternoon at Open Squash - FiDi, falling to Thanusaa Uthrian of Trinity in a thrilling five-game battle in round of 16 action in the Ramsay Cup.
Yee won the first and fourth games 11-7 and 11-6, but Uthrian claimed the second, third and decisive fifth games 11-9, 11-9 and 11-4 to advance. The loss marked the end of tournament play for all Cornell women's competitors on the second day of competition.
In the Women's Consolation Pool D quarterfinals, freshman
Vicky Lai fell to Princeton's Charlotte Bell in four games, 11-9, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6. Meanwhile, senior
Alysa Ali advanced via default over Stanford's Mariana Narvaez Dardon before her tournament run ended in the semifinals when she defaulted to Penn's Alexandra Stoddard.
In the Women's Consolation Pool E quarterfinals, senior
Aishwarya Khubchandani battled Trinity's Doyce Ye San Lee in a closely contested four-game match, ultimately falling 13-11, 5-11, 11-7, 14-12.
With the individual championships now complete for Cornell, the Big Red will shift its focus back to team competition. Cornell returns to action on Friday, Jan. 30, when it hosts No. 4 Princeton at the Belkin Squash Courts. Match action will begin at noon and will be streamed live for free on Stretch Internet.
