Bass-Sulpizio Earns National, Ivy League Honors After Record Day Against No. 4 Lehigh

| By:
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell senior quarterback Garrett Bass-Sulpizio was named the Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after accounting for 469 yards and three touchdowns in the Big Red's 48-38 upset of No. 4 Lehigh.

Bass-Sulpizio was also named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week.

He is the first Cornell player to earn a national weekly award since linebacker Luke Banbury was named the National Defensive Player of the Week in 2024, and the first Big Red player to earn the national offensive honor since quarterback Jeff Mathews in 2011.

Bass-Sulpizio completed 22 of 34 passes for 366 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, connecting with 10 different receivers. He also ran 17 times for 103 yards and a touchdown against a Lehigh defense that entered the game ranked first in the FCS against the run.

His 469 yards of total offense are the sixth most in a game in program history, three yards shy of Mathews' 472 against Fordham in 2012. He is the first Cornell player in the program's game-by-game records, which date to 1983, to pass for 300 yards and rush for 100 in the same game, and the first Cornell quarterback to run for 100 yards since Jameson Wang in 2021.

Bass-Sulpizio threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Von Broussard on Cornell's second possession, scored on a 1-yard run to give the Big Red a 31-10 lead in the second quarter and capped a 13-play, 79-yard drive in the third quarter with a 3-yard scoring pass to Brendan Lee.

Cornell finished with 600 yards of total offense, its most since 1995, and did not punt for the first time since 1982. The win was Cornell's first over a top-five opponent since beating No. 4 Ohio State in 1939, and it ended Lehigh's 23-game regular-season winning streak, the longest in Division I.

Bass-Sulpizio moved to 12th in Cornell history in career passing yards (2,947) and 13th in career total offense (3,486).
