CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Freshman
Greg Bernadsky won a three-set match Thursday as the Cornell men's tennis team opened play at the 2026 ITA Division I Men's New England Regional Championship, held at both the Beren Tennis Center and Murr Center on Harvard University's campus.
The No. 12 seed battled through his round of 64 match against Sacred Heart's Darren Huang. After taking the opening set 6-1, Bernadsky dropped the second 6-2 before closing it out 10-6 in the match tiebreak.
His run ended in the round of 32 against Binghamton's Andre Ajed, who had needed a match tiebreak to get past Holy Cross' Matthew Carlson, 7-5, 4-6, 10-7, earlier in the day. Bernadsky won the first set 6-3, but Ajed answered 6-4 in the second and took the match tiebreak 10-5.
Sophomore
Nathan Gold, the No. 7 seed, fell in straight sets to Marist's Gregor Heinemann in the round of 64, 6-1, 6-2, but rebounded in the consolation bracket. He outlasted Colgate's Jack Babka in a back-and-forth match, taking the first set 6-4, dropping a second-set tiebreak 7-5 and winning the match tiebreak 10-7. Gold advances to the consolation round of 16, where he is scheduled to face Brown's Cole Oberg.
Fellow sophomore
Jack Casciato fell to Fairfield's Calum Jessett, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 64. In his first consolation match, Casciato won a first-set tiebreak 7-2 against Le Moyne's Carlo Zucchini, but Zucchini took the second set 6-3 and the match tiebreak 10-5.
Doubles action begins Friday morning, with all five Cornell pairs in the round of 64, three of which are seeded. Junior

Eric Verdes, ranked No. 57 nationally and the tournament's top seed, open at 9 a.m. against Marist's Fateh Singh and Gregor Heinemann, who knocked Gold out of the singles main draw. Junior
Rushil Khosla and sophomore
Rethin Pranav Senthil Kumar, ranked No. 67 and seeded second, face Quinnipiac's Milan Radojicic and Prithvi Sudhakar at 11:30 a.m.

Cezar Papoe meets Colgate's Wittman Bulger and Wesley Nichols at 10 a.m. At the same time, Cornell's freshman duo of David Carteputreda and Bernadsky takes on Dartmouth's 10th-seeded Calvin Wang and Dillon Beckles. Carteputreda makes his collegiate debut, while Papoe plays his first doubles match for the Big Red.
