ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's tennis team completed a successful weekend with a 6-1 victory over Niagara on Sunday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 2-1 on the spring with their second win in two days against a Western New York opponent, while the Purple Eagles slipped to 1-3.
Cornell secured the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Martina Marica and Victoria Zhao earned a 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Sage Loudon and Michelle Ryndin cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 2. At the third position, Tanya Fan and Andrea Martinez De Los Rios edged Niagara's Larisa Kotok and Valeria Mora, 7–6, to complete the sweep.
In singles play, the Big Red claimed five of six matches. Ryndin opened with a straight-set win at No. 1, followed by Loudon at No. 2 and Martinez De Los Rios at No. 4, both in decisive fashion. Fan added a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6, while Zhao closed the afternoon with a three-set triumph at No. 3.
Niagara's lone point came at No. 5 singles, where Julia Clarke-Louie outlasted Marica in two sets.
The Big Red will compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships at Princeton this weekend with matches to be determined.
