Strong Distance, Throwing Performances Highlight Home Finale

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's indoor track and field team closed out its home schedule with a strong performance Saturday at the Marc Deneault Memorial Invite at Barton Hall, capturing multiple event titles while celebrating Black History Month.

The Big Red faced a 15-team field that included Buffalo, Cortland, Franklin & Marshall, Hamilton, Hartwick, Ithaca College, King's College, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Morrisville State, Oneonta, SUNY Delhi, Scranton and Syracuse.

Cornell found success in the middle-distance events. Senior Finn Boyle won the 800 meters in 1:52.35, with Noah Cummings finishing second in 1:54.48. In the 1,000 meters, Cornell swept the top three spots as sophomore Asher Patel claimed the title in 2:27.18, sophomore Colin Martens placed second in 2:27.69 and senior Ryan Johnson finished third in 2:32.75.

The distance crew continued the momentum in the 3,000 meters, where sophomore Andrew Ordway led a 1-2-3 sweep with a winning time of 8:38.44. Senior Zachary Winnicki (8:47.91) and freshman Brandon Gent (8:53.17) followed in second and third, respectively.

In the sprints, freshman Garrett Brennan earned a runner-up finish in the 400 meters, clocking 50.28.

Cornell's field athletes also delivered standout performances. Freshman Zachary Davidson won the pole vault at 4.82 meters, while senior Wyatt Ricketts placed second at 4.72 meters. Senior Gabe Ball added a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters.

Sophomore Peter Northrup led the throwing events, winning both the shot put (17.56m) and weight throw (19.77m). In the shot put, senior Noah Harman finished second at 17.45 meters and freshman Joe Seib placed third at 17.10 meters. Freshman Aidan Kerr added a third-place finish in the weight throw at 15.68 meters.

With the home portion of the indoor season complete, Cornell now turns its attention toward the championship segment of the schedule.
