No. 5 Cornell Rolls to 19-8 Victory Over Hobart, Improves to 3-0

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell junior Willem Firth recorded a season-high with four goals and added four assists to lead No. 5 Cornell to a 19-8 victory over Hobart on Tuesday at Schoellkopf Field, as the Big Red improved to 3-0 on the season.

Cornell wasted little time establishing control, scoring four consecutive goals to open the game and never trailing. The Big Red led 5-2 after the first quarter before exploding for seven goals in the second to push the margin to 12-3 at halftime, a cushion that rendered the final two quarters largely academic.

Firth's eight-point afternoon was the headliner, but the offense was a collective effort across the roster. Senior Bowie Horsman contributed three goals, junior Ryan Goldstein added two goals and an assist, junior Ryan Waldman scored twice, and junior Jaden Ciappara chipped in two goals and an assist. In all, 11 different players found the back of the net for Cornell.

Senior Jack Cascadden continued his strong start to the season at the faceoff X, winning 12 of 18 opportunities, while sophomore Michael Melkonian added eight wins in 11 tries to give Cornell a commanding 21-31 edge overall.

Junior Goalkeeper Matthew Tully made seven saves before giving way to Tim Piacentini for the final four minutes of play.
