Cornell 800 Free Relay group on the podium at the 2026 Ivy League Championships

Relays Climb Cornell Record Book As Big Red Claims Podium Finish During Day One Of Ivies

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Cornell men's swimming and diving team opened the 2026 Ivy League Championships with two relay finals on Wednesday night and sits fourth in the team standings with 104 points. Yale and Princeton lead the field with 120 points each, followed by Columbia (106) and Cornell (104).

Cornell began the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Pietro Ubertalli, Haihan Xu, Daniel Simoes and Josh Toothman posted a time of 1:25.75 to score 50 points. The Big Red followed with a strong performance in the 800-yard freestyle relay, finishing third overall to claim a podium finish. Ubertalli, Jacques Grove, Will Chen and Gabe Anagnoson combined for a time of 6:20.24 to add 54 points.

"We had a very solid start. Both relays were the second fastest in school history, and it's great to see that our 800 free relay group was able to finish in the top three", Wes Newman, the The Philip H. Bartels '71 Head Coach of Men's Swimming mentioned. "We are looking to continue with solid preliminary session tomorrow", Newman concluded with.

The Cornell men's swimming and diving team will return to the pool tomorrow, as it will look to build off of it's day one production and make a push toward the top of the standings. Competitions are slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. at DeNunzio Pool.
