Chen Matches Career High in 62-47 Road Loss to Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Audrey Chen and Clarke Jackson combined for 24 points Friday night at Pizzitola Sports Center, but Brown pulled away with an 11-0 run to close the second quarter and Cornell could not recover, falling 62-47.

Chen, a sophomore, finished with 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting, adding four rebounds and two steals. Jackson chipped in 10 points and two assists, but the Big Red shot just 32.7 percent from the field and committed 17 turnovers, which Brown converted into 14 points.

Cornell and Brown were tied 18-18 midway through the second quarter before Brown sparked the decisive run that stretched the deficit to 11, 29-18, at the break. Brown's Grace Arnolie capped the surge with a pair of free throws at the end of the quarter.

Brown picked up where it left off in the third quarter, outscoring Cornell 22-11 and pushing the lead as high as 22. Olivia Young delivered the knockout blow, draining a 3-pointer off an Arnolie assist as the buzzer sounded to send Cornell into the fourth trailing 51-29.

Arnolie finished with 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting to pace the Bears, while Young added 14 points and nine rebounds. Brown outrebounded Cornell 37-31 and shot 38.0 percent from the field, 33,3 percent from three, and finished the game 15-of-20 at the line.

Cornell outscored Brown 18-11 in the fourth quarter, with Chen accounting for six of those points, but the deficit proved too steep. The Big Red falls to 8-17 overall and 3-9 in Ivy League play, dropping its sixth consecutive game.

QUOTABLE
"First of all kudos to Brown on a great game plan and on securing a spot in Ivy madness," said Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 Head Coach of Women's Basketball Emily Garner. "I thought they did a great job executing in transition, and we lost their shooters a few times. We did a great job continuing to fight, and got a lot of the shots we wanted, just couldn't get them to fall. I also thought the foul trouble hurt us, and we struggled to get in a flow. We are going back to the drawing board and looking to execute tomorrow against a tough Yale team."
