Cornell at the 2026 Olympics

Four Cornellians head to Italy in February for the 2026 Winter Games. They join a long list of former Big Red student-athletes to compete in the world games, bringing the total number of Olympians to 120 (making 202 total appearances). Cornell has won 70 total Olympic medals, including 23 in the Winter Games (13 gold, 8 silver, 2 bronze).

The History of Cornellians at the Olympic Games

Cornell's four Olympians in 2026 raise the all-time total to 120 making a total of 202 appearances. Big Red athletes have won 70 Olympic medals, including 23 in the Summer Games (13 gold, 8 silver, 2 bronze), since DIck Parke, Class of 1916, won gold in the men’s bobsled in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 1928.

2026 Winter Olympic Games, Il Cortina, Italy

Laura Fortino ’13, Women's Ice Hockey (Italy)

Fortino, a three-time first-team All-American, helped anchor a defense that spearheaded the Big Red to four consecutive Ivy League and ECAC Hockey regular season titles, three ECAC Hockey tournament crowns, four NCAA tournament appearances and three Frozen Fours. The 2011 Ivy League Player of the Year and a three-time first-team All-Ivy and All-ECAC Hockey pick was a three-time Patty Kazmaier Award nominee (finalist in both 2011 and 2012). An assistant captain her senior year, Fortino graduated with the sixth-most assists in team history (98). Fortino closed her career with 35 goals and 133 points in 133 career contests. She earned a spot on the 2010 all-tournament team for the NCAA Championships. She would go on to become part of an Olympic gold medal-winning team at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and helped claim silver in 2018 in Pyeongchang for Team Canada. She medaled at six World Championships, including capturing gold in 2012. She was the first overall pick at the 2014 CWHL Draft by the Brampton Thunder.

Rory Guilday ’25, Women’s Ice Hockey (United States)

A three-time world medalist with Team USA in the IIHF World Championships, Guilday produced one of the most decorated careers in Cornell women’s ice hockey history. During her career she earned All-Ivy League honors on three occasions, with two being first team recognitions and one as a second teamer, as well as Third Team All-ECAC Hockey distinctions. She made an immediate impact as a freshman with selections to both the ECAC Hockey and USCHO All-Rookie teams. Guilday served as a two-year captain while anchoring a defensive unit that ranked among the nation’s best in back-to-back seasons. She contributed offensively as well, recording 19 goals and 33 assists over her career and played a pivotal role in helping the Big Red to consecutive Ivy League titles and NCAA Tournament appearances during her junior and senior seasons. In her final season, she helped deliver Cornell’s first ECAC Hockey Championship since 2015 and its first Frozen Four berth since 2019.

Brianne Jenner ’15, Women’s Ice Hockey (Canada)

A four-time first-team all-league selection in ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League, Jenner earned first-team All-America honors in 2013 and second-team accolades in 2015. The two-time ECAC Hockey and Ivy League Player of the Year, Jenner graduated as the program's all-time assist leader with 136 career helpers and second all-time with 229 career points. A four-time Patty Kazmaier Award nominee, she was twice a top 10 finalist. She earned a spot on the ECAC Hockey Championships' all-tournament team and captured the Ivy League Rookie of the Year trophy as a freshman in 2011. Jenner sat out the 2013-14 school year while competing for Team Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, helping the squad to a gold medal. She won Olympic gold in 2014 and 2022, earning tournament MVP after her nine goals tied an Olympic record for a single tournament in 2022. Jenner also claimed silver in 2018. She has competed in 11 world championships with the senior team, winning four golds, six silver and a bronze. Jenner played professional hockey for nearly a decade in the CWHL, PWHPA and the PWHL.

Kristin O'Neill ’20, Women's Ice Hockey

A four-time all-league selection in ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League, O’Neill was the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2018 and the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2017. The three-time First-Team All-Ivy honoree left her mark on Cornell’s record books. Throughout her career at Lynah Rink, O’Neill broke the record for short-handed goals (10) and game-winning goals (21). A member of the 2020 ECAC All-Tournament team, she ranks eighth in career goals (81) and tenth in career points (145). When not on the ice with the Cornell Big Red, O’Neill shared her time with the Canadian National Team.
