NEW YORK — The eighth-ranked Cornell women's squash team bounced back from a difficult weekend with a 7-2 victory over No. 15 Columbia on Saturday at the SL Green StreetSquash Center.
The Big Red (6-5, 2-3 Ivy League) won seven of nine matches to extend its winning streak over the Lions to three and improve to 12-8 all-time in the series. Cornell posted three victories in straight games and also had three others end in four games against the Lions (1-8, 0-5 Ivy).
After outlasting Columbia's Eva Salzman in the first game, 14-12, senior
Alysa Ali dominated the final two games, allowing only eight total points in her straight-game victory, 14-12, 11-3, 11-5. At the top position, junior
Xin Ying Yee posted a straight-game victory over Nourin Khalifa, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6, while senior
Aishwarya Khubchandani rallied from a first-game deficit at No. 2 to defeat Yeheni Kuruppu 9-11, 14-12, 11-6, 11-6.
Sophomore
Sabine Ball added a straight-game win at No. 5, defeating Amal Izhar 11-6, 11-8, 11-8. Junior
Maya Voloshin overcame an opening-game loss at No. 7 to defeat Charlie McCrone 5-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-5, while fellow junior
Saniya Jaggi posted a four-game victory over Columbia's Isha Gupta at No. 8, 14-12, 11-8, 10-12, 11-5.
The longest match of the afternoon came at No. 6, where junior
Christa Kay outlasted Eugenia Li in five games, 12-10, 11-8, 11-13, 9-11, 11-5.
Columbia's two victories came from Kaavya Bansal, who defeated freshman
Vicky Lai in four games at No. 4, and Advita Sharma, who posted a straight-game win over freshman
Lamees Shalaby at No. 9.
