Men's Tennis Sweeps #43 Middle Tennessee, Remains Unbeaten at Home

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The 34th-ranked Cornell men's tennis team closed out a strong weekend at home with a 4-0 sweep of No. 43 Middle Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 12-2 with its second straight sweep of a ranked opponent, while Middle Tennessee fell to 16-7. Cornell improved to a perfect 5-0 at home this season.

Cornell took control early by winning the doubles point. Petar Teodorovic and Felipe Pinzon started the push with a 6-2 victory at No. 3, and the 46th-ranked tandem of Eric Verdes and Rodrigo Fernandes followed with a 6-4 win over Middle Tennessee's 83rd-ranked pair of Ondrej Horak and Karim Al-Amin at No. 1.

The Big Red carried that momentum straight into singles, winning the first three completed matches in straight sets. At the top of the lineup, 80th-ranked Fernandes rolled past Al-Amin 6-2, 6-1. Verdes added a 6-2, 6-4 win over Horak at No. 2, and Teodorovic clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Birtan Duran at No. 3.

Singles matches at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 were left unfinished once Cornell secured the fourth point and extended its win streak to seven matches overall.

The Big Red begins Ivy League season when it hits the road for contests against No. 40 Yale on Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m. in New Haven, Conn., then faces Brown on Sunday, April 5 at 1 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
