ITHACA, N.Y. --The Cornell women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance in a 7-0 victory over Central New York foe Le Moyne on Wednesday at Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 7-6 on the season, while the Dolphins fell to 1-9.
Cornell secured the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Martina Marica and Michelle Ryndin earned a 6-4 victory at the top spot, while Victoria Zhao and Tanya Fan cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 3. The No. 2 match was left unfinished with Cornell holding a commanding 5-1 lead on the strength of strong play from Emma Baker and Dylan Gelber.
In singles play, the Big Red swept all six matches in straight sets. Ryndin set the tone with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1, followed by Sage Loudon at No. 2 and Dylan Gelber at No. 3, each in decisive fashion. Baker, Marica and Fan completed the sweep with wins at the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, respectively. In all, the Big Red dropped just 21 total games across six singles matches in its most complete effort of the season.
The Big Red opens Ivy League play at No. 68 Columbia on Saturday, March 28 at 12 p.m.
