King Wins 110 Hurdles, Cornell Finishes Strong Outdoor Season Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. — Cornell men's track and field wrapped up its outdoor season opener at the UCF Knights Invite on Saturday, highlighted by a hurdles victory and strong early-season performances across multiple event groups.

The Big Red opened day two in the field, where Desmond Whitley led the way in the triple jump with a fourth-place mark of 15.00 meters. Kameron Coleman followed closely in fifth at 14.61 meters.

"It was a good overall meet, with strong season openers and some personal-best performances," head coach Adrian Durant said. "The men's triple jump stood out, with Des jumping 15 meters."

In the discus, freshman Joe Seib recorded a sixth-place throw of 48.35 meters, while Benjamin Shabino placed 12th with a mark of 44.01 meters.

On the track, Cornell opened the running events in the 400 meters, where Michael Mazero paced the group with an 11th-place finish in 48.29. Seamus Finn (19th, 49.19), Adam Kaufman (20th, 49.28) and Neil Chowdhurry (22nd, 49.44) followed.

Ryder King delivered Cornell's top performance of the day in the 110-meter hurdles, winning the event in 13.99.

"Ryder King had a great meet overall, following up his 400 hurdles on Friday with a 13.99 in the 110 hurdles for the win," Durant said.

In the 100 meters, Panashe Nhenga led the Big Red with a 14th-place finish in 10.61, just ahead of Ricardo Lagares Jr. (15th, 10.62) and Mamadou Diallo (26th, 10.80).

Cornell closed out the meet with a strong showing in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing second with a lineup of King, Finn, Meza and Mazero.

With the first outdoor meet complete, the Big Red will look to build on its early results as the season continues for them at the Bucknell Bison Invite on Friday, April 10.
