#11 Big Red Falls To #8 Bulldogs In The ECAC Hockey Semifinals

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The no. 11-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team fell to no. 8 Yale 7-2 in the inaugural Lake Placid ECAC Hockey Tournament women's game on Friday evening at Herb Brooks Arena. The Big Red's season comes to a close, while Bulldogs advance to the ECAC Hockey Championship.

Avi Adam and Delaney Fleming scored goals for the Big Red. Karel Prefontaine and Mckenna Van Gelder earned assists in the game. Annelies Bergmann made 26 saves in the game for Cornell.

After a Cornell face off win in the Yale offensive-zone, Prefontaine found Adam all alone in the middle of the ice who skated in on Frey and made the breakaway count to put the Big Red in front 1-0 less than one minute into the game. Delaney Fleming was tabbed with a slash 13 minutes into the contest, and Gracie Gilkyson found the back of the net on the power-play to tie the game at 1-1. Three minutes later Emma McGowan made Cornell pay for a turnover, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.

Molly Boyle tapped in the rebound from McGown's chance to extend Yale's advantage the 3-1 just under three minutes into the second period. The Bulldogs continued pressure, as Carina DiAntonio added another for Yale. The Big Red ended the period buzzing and generating dangerous chances, but could not get any pucks past Samson Frey.

Fleming scored less than two minutes into the third frame, bringing the score to 4-2. Cornell owned a prime power-play chance, getting the chance to cut the deficit to one, but DiAntonio found her way in on Bergmann with no Big Red defenders in sight, and put it away to move the count to 5-2. The Bulldogs would add an empty-net tally at 14:45 and a goal in the final seconds from DiAntonio and Avery Peters to put the game on ice.
