Cornell Women's Lacrosse Falls to Brown in Ivy Season Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Cornell women's lacrosse team dropped its Ivy League opener Saturday afternoon, falling 10-6 to Brown on the road.

Cornell struck first when Emily Iacobellis found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season to give the Big Red an early 1-0 lead. Brown answered late in the opening quarter, evening the score at 1-1 heading into the second.

The Bears took their first lead early in the second quarter, but Cornell quickly responded. Ellie Bergin, the team's leading scorer, tallied her 12th goal of the season off an assist from Iacobellis to tie the game at 2-2.

Brown regained the advantage before halftime, scoring once more to take a 3-2 lead into the break.

At the half, Brown held a 5-2 edge in draw controls and a narrow 11-10 advantage in ground balls. Cornell led in shots on goal, 11-7.

The Bears created separation in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals while holding Cornell scoreless to build a 7-2 lead entering the final period.
