Mairead Clas competing at the Outdoor Ivy League Heps meet in 2023

Clas’ PR, Second-Place Finish Highlights Bucknell Meet

LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Cornell women's outdoor track and field team saw four distance runners compete at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the invitational 1,500 meters from senior Mairead Clas.

Clas turned in a personal-best time of 4:24.41 to place second in a competitive field, marking a strong step forward early in the outdoor season.

"Mairead's runner-up finish in the invite 1500m was an exciting step forward toward her season goals," assistant coach Kayla Evans said. "The objective today was to be patient off the line and compete from a tactical position. She handled the early shuffling well that occurs in big races, then maintained her space in the top group leading up to the bell lap. Mairead closed hard to cover a move by the leader, charging in the final 100 meters to hold off the pack. We're walking away having learned valuable lessons, banking a 1500m personal best, and hungry to get back out there again."

In the invitational 5,000 meters, sophomore Lucia Werner led the Big Red contingent, placing 42nd with a time of 17:13.91. Junior Emma O'Day followed in 76th (17:43.01), while freshman Evelyn Prodoehl placed 78th (17:45.05).

Cornell will continue its outdoor campaign tomorrow as the rest of the squad will take on day two of the Big Red Invitational, Cornell's only home meet of the season. The full meet day schedule can be found here and live stats will be available on leonetiming.com
