Holt, Frans Combine For 10 RBI But Dartmouth Outlasts Big Red 15-14

HANOVER, N.H. - The Cornell softball team fell 15-14 to the Dartmouth Big Green on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Dartmouth Softball Park. The Big Red finished the series with a record of 15-18, while the Big Green moved to 7-18.

Lauren Holt led Cornell offensively with a dominant performance, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and six RBIs, driving in nearly half of the Big Red's runs. She was complemented by Tarisa Frans, who added three hits, four RBIs, and four runs scored, helping power a 13-hit offensive output.

Cornell's pitching staff faced consistent pressure in a high-scoring game. Laney Freiband carried the bulk of the workload, throwing 5.1 innings while allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits, before Mila Fiordalisi added an inning in relief. Emma Harshberger was charged with the loss after entering in the seventh inning, as the staff combined to allow 15 runs on 18 hits in the back-and-forth contest.

The Big Green struck first in the second inning on an RBI double from Herrmann to take a 1-0 lead, but Cornell answered in the third when Holt doubled to tie the game at 1-1. Dartmouth regained the advantage in the third inning with a two-run single to make it 3-1 before Cornell responded in the fourth with a four-run frame, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Frans and a two-RBI single from Holt to take a 6-3 lead.

Dartmouth surged back in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to take a 7-6 lead, including a three-run double from Wilson. Cornell answered again in the sixth inning as Holt launched a three-run home run to put the Big Red back in front, 9-7. The Big Green responded immediately with a four-run home run from Beauvais, reclaiming the lead at 11-9.

The Big Red rallied in the seventh inning with a five-run frame to take control. Avery Wolfe started the scoring with an RBI single before Charlize Cai added an RBI double to tie the game at 11-11. Frans delivered a two-run double to give Cornell a 13-11 lead, and Harshberger followed with an RBI single to extend the advantage to 14-11.

Dartmouth mounted a decisive rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete the comeback. A series of RBI singles tied the game at 14-14 before Herrmann delivered the walk-off RBI single to give the Big Green a 15-14 victory.

The Cornell softball team will return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 14th against Niagra University. The Big Red and the Purple Eagles will meet for a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Niemand-Robison Field. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
