ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell softball first-year infielder
Sofia Hernandez has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week following strong performances in the Big Red's series against Colgate and Dartmouth.
Hernandez batted .538 with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.897 OPS for the Big Red during a 3-2 weekend, highlighted by matching the Ivy League's single-game record of three home runs in a road victory over Dartmouth. The freshman hit safely in all five contests, driving in five runs, scoring six times and walking seven times without striking out. She hit .556 (5-for-9) in the series win at Dartmouth with five walks and scored six runs. Hernandez was 3-for-3 with three home runs, four RBI and a walk in the game one victory in Saturday's doubleheader, hitting the go-ahead homer in the seventh inning after entering the final frame tied at 7-7. Her two-run homer in the fifth gave the Big Red its first lead of the day.
In game two, Hernandez drew a walk and scored in extra innings in helping the doubleheader sweep. She also walked and scored in the fifth as part of a 1-for-2 contest with three walks. Hernandez had a hit and walked in Sunday's wild 15-14 loss, scoring a run. She opened the week by going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two walks in a doubleheader split with Colgate. Hernandez was also flawless in 22 fielding chances on the weekend.

The Cornell softball team will return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 14th against Niagara University. The Big Red and the Purple Eagles will meet for a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Niemand-Robison Field. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
