ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell women's outdoor track and field split its squad between two meets Friday, turning in strong performances at the Wake Forest Invite and the Navy Invite.
At Wake Forest, the Big Red closed out the meet with a series of notable results on the track. Francine Stevens led the way in the 400 meters, taking first place in 53.72. The mark stands as her season best and ranks No. 99 on Cornell's Division I seasonal list. Katja Jackson added a personal-best performance in the same event, finishing 14th in 57.97.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Elise Sawyer placed fourth with a time of 1:00.58.
Cornell also saw success in the distance events, as Mairead Clas recorded a 13th-place finish in the 5,000-meter invitational. Her time of 16:13.05 ranks No. 77 on the Division I season standings.
Meanwhile, at the Navy Invite in Annapolis, Maryland, Cornell opened competition in the heptathlon, completing five events on day one. Paula-Marie Brown leads the field with 3,350 points, while Rikki Carver sits fifth with 2,767 points.
The heptathlon resumes Saturday, with events scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Live results will be available on leonetiming.com.
