ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell women's outdoor track and field competed at Ithaca College on Tuesday, marking the first outdoor meet held at the new Egan Family Complex Track and Field Facility, where every event winner established a facility record.
The Big Red turned in a strong all-around performance, highlighted by multiple event victories and a chance to sharpen execution as the outdoor season enters its final stretch.
On the track, senior Justine Hounsell led Cornell in the 400 meters, winning in 57.50 to secure one of the meet's inaugural facility records. Sophomore Sharlyn Ramirez-Castillo added a runner-up finish in 59.93 after also placing eighth in the 200 meters (27.04). In the 200, junior Belle Bennett (25.72) and freshman Monika Vargas (26.37) finished second and third, respectively.
Cornell's middle-distance group controlled the 800 meters, sweeping the top three spots behind freshman Ivory Piskula's winning time of 2:18.93. Junior Sade Falese (2:23.06) and junior Emma O'Day (2:25.34) followed in second and third. O'Day returned in the 1,500 meters to capture another facility record, winning in 4:47.72, while senior Cara Hilboki (5:07.05), senior Ava Black (5:07.34) and Kate Ahmari (5:08.66) added depth with top-five finishes.
In the hurdles, Bennett placed second in the 100-meter hurdles, with sophomore Audrey Hubbell (14.63), Vargas (14.83) and senior Jodi Parrott (14.94) finishing third through fifth.
The Big Red found continued success in the field events, beginning in the high jump where sophomore Syna Sony cleared 1.67m to win the event, followed by sophomore Johanna Stuard in second with 1.64m. Junior Avery Hilliard claimed the pole vault title with a clearance of 4.16 meters, while junior Lauren Cashman cleared 3.91m and sophomore Kelly Regan overcame 3.81m, placing them third and fourth.
Sophomore Elizabeth Graham secured a win in the triple jump with a mark of 11.67m, while classmate Rebecca Griebel finished second 10.76m.
In the throws, Lauren Smith placed second in the shot put with a mark of 13.09m and Sade Falese added a runner-up finish in the javelin with 24.55m.
"This meet was a nice opportunity for us to get some more reps and technical work in as we start approaching the end of the outdoor season," head coach Mike Henderson said.
