Big Red Throwers Highlight Day 2 at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Cornell men's outdoor track and field team continued competition Friday at the Penn Relays, highlighted by a pair of top-five finishes in the shot put.

In the field events, senior Joe Seib led the way with a third-place finish in the shot put, recording a mark of 17.51m. Teammate Noah Harman followed closely behind, placing fifth with a throw of 17.28m.

Associate head coach Kevin Phipps praised the duo's performance.

"Felt pretty good about Joe and Noah's performances in the shot put," Phipps said. "Noah was just a few centimeters off of his outdoor best, finding a good rhythm in the final round. Joe competed very well today, he responded great after a foul in round one with a throw over 17 meters in round two, then managed to get back into medal position after getting bumped down in the fifth round with his best on the day at 17.51m."

Earlier in the day, Seib also competed in the discus, placing 19th with a throw of 48.27m. Joe Rachiele added a 19th-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 55.09m.

On the track, Cornell's 4x100-meter relay team of Garrett Brennan, Ricardo Lagares Jr., Ryder King and Panashe Nhenga finished 19th in the Championship of America race with a time of 40.89.

Cornell will conclude competition at the Penn Relays on Saturday. Live streaming will be available on FloTrack, with results provided on the Penn Relays website.
