PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The 30th-ranked Cornell men's tennis team bounced back in Ivy League play with a 4-1 victory over Brown on Sunday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Courts. The Big Red improved to 13-3 (1-1 Ivy), while Brown fell to 15-10 (0-3 Ivy).
Cornell took early control by securing the doubles point with wins at Nos. 3 and 1. Petar Teodorovic and Felipe Pinzon opened with a dominant 6-1 victory, and the 46th-ranked tandem of Rodrigo Fernandes and Eric Verdes followed with a 6-3 win to clinch the point. The No. 2 match was left unfinished.
The Big Red carried that momentum into singles, winning three of the first four completed matches to secure the victory.
At No. 5, Rethin Pranav Senthil Kumar extended the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Zander Bravo for his 19th victory of the season. The freshman is now 10-1 in dual matches. Aman Sharma followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6 to push Cornell ahead 3-0.
Brown earned its lone point at No. 2, where Noah Hernandez defeated Eric Verdes in straight sets. Cornell quickly answered at the top of the lineup, as 80th-ranked Fernandes delivered the clinching point with a commanding straight-set win over Ivan Sodan for his team-best 20th win of the year.
Matches at Nos. 3 and 4 were left unfinished once the outcome was decided.
The Big Red will split next weekend between a road game at Princeton on Friday, April 10 at 2 p.m. and a home contest with Penn on Sunday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at the Reis Tennis Center.
