ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell outdoor track and field team will send seven athletes to compete across seven events at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East First Round, held May 27-30 at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex in Lexington, Kentucky.
The East First Round serves as the preliminary qualifying meet for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, with the top performers in each event advancing to nationals in Eugene, Oregon.
On the men's side, sophomore thrower Peter Northrup qualified in both the hammer throw and shot put. Northrup enters the hammer throw seeded 23rd in the region with a mark of 65.65m, recorded at the Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. He also ranks 21st in the shot put with a throw of 18.45m, also achieved at Outdoor Heps.
Cornell will have three competitors in the shot put, as Noah Harman and Joe Seib join Northrup in the event. Harman enters the competition seeded 40th with a mark of 18.00m from Outdoor Heps, while Seib sits 48th after recording a personal-best 17.79m at the PSU Sykes & Sabock Challenge.
Senior hurdler Ryder King qualified in both hurdle events for the Big Red. King is seeded 40th in the 110-meter hurdles following his 13.85 performance at Outdoor Heps and ranks 26th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.72 set at the Penn Relays.
Distance runner Pierre Attiogbe will represent Cornell in the 5,000 meters after posting a no. 3 all-time program-record of 13:37.70 at the Penn Relays, where he became the first Cornell runner to win the event since the 1980s. Attiogbe enters the regional meet seeded fifth in the second heat.
On the women's side, Avery Hilliard qualified in the pole vault and enters the competition seeded 22nd with a clearance of 4.28m.
Anika Sukumar will compete in the triple jump after recording a mark of 12.69m, earning the No. 10 seed in the East region.
