| By:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Gilda Dondona '28 claimed the MAISA Women's Singlehanded Championship for the second straight year, headlining a weekend that saw Cornell sailing compete at three regattas, two of them hosted on Cayuga Lake.

At the Faye Bennett MAISA Women's Singlehanded, sailed in Radials out of Navy, Dondona won the event outright with 27 points, finishing ahead of a 17-boat fleet that included sailors from Queen's, Georgetown, Fordham and Old Dominion. Conditions varied across the two days, with race committee moving competitors between the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay as the wind shifted and, at times, died out entirely.

Back home, Cornell hosted the Susan Rogers regatta in FJs and the Jack Boehringer '52 Open Invite in 420s. In the Susan Rogers, sailed in one division, Cornell's Big Red 3 boat of Adrianna D'Agati '29 and Halina Diehl '30 finished runner-up to Penn's Quakers 1, with Big Red 2 (Ava Gustafson '28 and Annabelle Ulak '30) placing fifth and Big Red 1 (Winborne Majette '27 and Grace Penque '29) placing sixth in an 18-boat field.

In the Jack Boehringer '52 Open Invite, Cornell's Big Red 1 boat of Marcus Greco '28 and Emil Damji '29 finished fourth among 18 entries. Big Red 3, sailed by Beylen Gode '29 and Avery Hoffman '30, placed 14th, and Big Red 2, sailed by Nikhil Damji '29 and Anna Iacobucci '29, placed 16th. Penn's Quakers 2 won the event.

Cornell returns to action Sept. 26-27 at Kings Point, N.Y., competing in the MAISA Top 9 Combined Women's and MAISA Top 9 Combined Open regattas, hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
