ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell sailing squared off with Hobart and William Smith in a pair of head-to-head regattas this weekend, hosting the Cayuga Clash on Cayuga Lake Saturday before traveling to Geneva, N.Y., for the Seneca Showdown on Sunday.

In the Cayuga Clash, sailed in 420s across two divisions, Cornell's Big Red 4 boat won the 13-boat regatta with 70 points, holding off Hobart and William Smith's Statesmen 5 (86) for the top spot. Gilda Dondona '28 and Halina Diehl '30 skippered and crewed the A division for the winning boat, with Winborne Majette '27 and Grace Penque '29 sailing the B division. Cornell's Big Red 1, sailed by Adrianna D'Agati '29 and Anna Iacobucci '29 in the A division and Marcus Greco '28 and Emil Damji '29 in the B division, finished third with 96 points. The Big Red also placed seventh, 10th and 11th, as Cornell and Hobart and William Smith split the podium across the fleet.

The two teams met again Sunday at the Seneca Showdown, hosted by Hobart and William Smith in 420s under one-division scoring. Cornell's Big Red 2, again sailed by Dondona and Diehl, turned the tables with a win of its own, posting 14 points across seven races to top the 17-boat fleet. Hobart and William Smith's Statesmen 3 was runner-up with 26 points, and Cornell's Big Red 4, sailed by Beylen Gode '29 and Avery Hoffman '30, finished fourth with 37. Cornell's Big Red 1, with Majette and Penque back in the boat, tied for sixth at 48 points.

The back-to-back regattas gave Cornell sailors extensive race time on both home waters and against a familiar Seneca Lake rival, with the Big Red picking up wins in each event.
