ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell junior captain Benjamin Roerden was named the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Co-Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in the Big Red's season opener against Mansfield.

Roerden, a native of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, recorded a team-high 11 tackles, including two solo stops and nine assisted tackles, in Cornell's opening-weekend matchup at Schoellkopf Field. He also blocked two extra-point attempts, one in the third quarter and another in the fourth.

In addition, Roerden recorded two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in the contest.

"In a game that didn't have many highlights, Ben single-handedly made 11 tackles, two blocked kicks, two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks," said Cornell head coach Michael Huyghue '83. "He is probably deserving of defensive player of the week in addition to special teams."

The honor comes after a standout sophomore season for Roerden, who earned First-Team All-CSFL honors in 2025. He started all eight games and led Cornell with 5.5 sacks while recording 45 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and one blocked kick.

Roerden also became a team captain as a junior, continuing his role as a key contributor on the Cornell defense.
