Wollstein Named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell junior forward Kasper Wollstein has been named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday, after the Berlin, Germany, native scored two goals in the Big Red's 4-1 win over Harvard on Saturday at Berman Field.

Wollstein entered off the bench and made an immediate impact, breaking a 2-1 deadlock in the 75th minute with a right-footed finish at the top of the penalty area following a takeaway. He added an insurance goal eight minutes later, redirecting a lofted pass from Nate Hovan into the upper right corner to put the match out of reach.

The performance capped a productive week for Cornell (5-2-0, 1-0-0 Ivy), which also defeated Binghamton, 3-1, on Sept. 22. Wollstein finished the week with two goals on six shots, three of which were on frame.

A 6-foot-3 forward who came to Cornell by way of Iowa Lakes Community College, Wollstein started to find his scoring touch as a sophomore last fall, netting four goals — including a game-winner — across all 20 matches. He's now building on that form as a junior, delivering one of the biggest goals of the season so far in Cornell's Ivy League opener.

Saturday's win opened conference play for the Big Red and marked the program's fifth victory of the season. Cornell returns to action next weekend as Ivy League play continues at Brown on Saturday, 10/3 at 1:00 p.m.
