Senior Season - 2008-09
Widely regarded as an outstanding defensive player, Mugford was recognized for his contributions by being named the ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Forward following his senior season. He continued his strong, gritty play while also adding a touch of offense that was previously absent in his game. He opened the year by scoring the game's only goal in a 1-0 season-opening win at Princeton, the first game-winner of his career, and followed that up with a goal a week later at Colgate. During that game against the Raiders, he suffered an injury that would keep him out each of the next two weekends, but he returned to pick up a pair of assists in a win against Clarkson on Dec. 5, the first two-assist game of his career. After entering his senior season with just three goals in his first three seasons, he tallied five goals in his final campaign. Mugford scored a pair of goals against Rensselaer on Feb. 20, his first career two-goal game, and added an assist in the NCAA Midwest Regional Final against Bemidji State. He had a goal and an assist on the game-winning goal against Princeton in the ECAC Hockey semifinals, another of his three multi-point games on the year.
