Biography

Senior Season - 2009-10
Scali closed out his Cornell career as one of the top defensive forwards in the country, seeing extensive time on the team's penalty killing unit that finished the season ranked third in the country. Scali also contributed on the offensive end, scoring three goals and three assists for six points while picking up 32 minutes in penalties and skating to a -1 rating. Scali picked up his first points of the season with a goal and an assist in the win against Brown on Nov. 14, then added another goal in the next game against Princeton on Nov. 20. He stretched his point-scoring streak to three games with an assist against Quinnipiac the following night. Scali then scored an empty-net goal in the win against New Hampshire on Jan. 3, drawing the praise of ESPN analyst Barry Melrose for his play in the contest.

Junior Season - 2008-09
Scali set a career high with four assists as a junior, appearing in 30 of the Big Red's 36 games. He posted his first career multi-point game with a pair of assists on Nov. 22 against Dartmouth, with those also serving as his first points of the season. He later added an assist on Dan Nicholls' game-winning goal on Dec. 5 against Clarkson, then assisted on Blake Gallagher's empty-net goal on Jan. 4 at Massachusetts. Numbers aside, Scali resumed his role as one of the team's top penalty killers and one of the best defensive forwards in the league.

Sophomore Season - 2007-08
Scali was one of the team's most consistent performers as a sophomore, appearing in 34 of the 36 games on the year. He scored a pair of goals and had two assists on the year for four points, but his most important contributions came on the penalty killing unit, helping the Big Red to kill off 86 percent of the penalties against for the season. He scored his first career goal in the loss to UMass-Lowell on Dec. 28, tipping in a shot from the point. He picked up his first career point on Nov. 17 at Dartmouth, assisting on the first of Dan Nicholls' two goals. He also picked up an assist in game one of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series at Union, assisting on the first of Chris Fontas' two tallies. He also added in an empty net goal on Feb. 2 at Colgate.

Freshman Season - 2006-07
Scali saw time in 12 contests as a freshman after battling injuries for much of the early part of his first season. He played in eight straight games from the Wayne State contest on Nov. 26 to the game at Clarkson on Jan. 13. He was able to provide a physical presence to go along with his speed, making him a valuable member of the penalty killing unit. Scali recorded 13 shots in his 12 games, with three of those coming in the game at Clarkson on Jan. 13.

Before Cornell
A tenacious penalty killer with great speed, Scali showed that he can also chip in on offense, as he scored 28 goals and added 30 assists for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the British Columbia Hockey League. He was named team MVP and was selected to the BCHL All-Star Game. Scali was also a member of the Coastal All-Star team in 2005 and 2006.

Personal
Giuseppe Nick Scali is the son of Nick and Mara Scali and he has an older sister. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
