Biography
Senior Season - 2010
Bertucci saved his best season for last, as he earned second-team All-Ivy League honors as a senior, posting a 3-2 record with a sparkling 2.62 earned-run average. He finished second on the team in earned-run average, innings pitched (44.2) and strikeouts (36). Bertucci showed outstanding control, issuing just four walks on the season with his 36 strikeouts. He made his first start on March 27 at Army, working eight innings and allowing just three earned runs while taking a hard-luck loss. He earned the win against Harvard on April 4, working 7.1 innings of two-run ball, striking out six. He saved his best outing for last, working eight innings in a 7-3 win against Princeton on April 30, striking out a career-best 10 and allowing one earned run.
Junior Season - 2009
Bertucci made seven appearances on the season, starting five times, and posting an 8.04 earned run average in 28 innings of work. He had his best outing on March 31 in game two of the doubleheader against Yale, working six scoreless innings, striking out five while allowing only six hits in earning the victory. Bertucci also had a strong outing on March 17 at Saint Mary's, allowing three runs on nine hits in six and one-third innings. For the season, he struck out 12 while allowing 10 walks and finished the year with a 1-2 record.
Sophomore Season - 2008
Bertucci was slowed early on while recovering from off-season surgery, but made five starts in his six appearances on the season, posting a 6.04 earned-run average. He made his season debut with three innings of three-hit ball against Pitt on March 16, striking out three and picking up his first career save in the Big Red’s 8-5 victory. His longest outing of the season came in the second game of a doubleheader at Yale on April 6, working seven innings and allowing six hits and four runs, three of them earned. Bertucci showed exceptional control on the season, striking out 15 batters while walking just three. He fanned a season-high four hitters in his final appearance on the season on April 27 at Princeton, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings of work.
Freshman Season - 2007
Bertucci enjoyed a solid rookie season, grabbing one of the four league starting spots with solid performances in the non-league campaign. Bertucci was 1-5 with a 6.27 ERA in 47.1 innings of work, but had nearly two strikeouts for every walk (27 K, 15 BB). He threw a gem in his collegiate debut, working eight innings and allowing just an unearned run while allowing four hits and striking out four at Bucknell on March 3. He got his first collegiate win on April 7 vs. Dartmouth, working 7.1 innings in a 12-3 victory. Bertucci struck out a season-best five batters in his final outing on April 28 at Princeton.
At St. Louis University
Bertucci pitched four years, lettering twice, and helped guide his team to the state quarterfinals in 2006. In the state sectional title game, he threw a no-hitter to help his team advance. He earned all-Metro St. Louis area and all-conference honors, and was the starting pitcher for the Senior Legion All-Star game in 2006.
Personal
Don Antony Bertucci is the son of Rico and Barb Bertucci. He has two brothers, including an older brother, Rico, who pitched for Notre Dame, and a younger sister. Bertucci is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
