Biography

Senior Season - 2010
Vitiello made 18 appearances as a senior, starting 11 of those contests. He finished the season with a .261 batting average, eight runs scored and six driven in. Vitiello also stole three bases on the year. He had three multi-hit games for the season, going 3-for-6 with three runs scored on April 6 against Binghamton. Later, he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI on April 28 at Binghamton. Vitiello closed out his career with a 2-for-5 showing with one run scored, two driven in and a triple on May 6 against Ithaca. A versatile infielder, Vitiello appeared at second, third and short during the season, including making eight starts at short, two at designated hitter and one at second.

Junior Season - 2009
Vitiello appeared in 13 games as a utility infielder for the Big Red, earning the start six times. He finished the season with a .222 batting average with six hits in 27 at bats, scoring four runs and driving in one. Vitiello also stole the only base he attempted on the year, on April 12 against Penn. He went 2-for-3 with a run scored in getting the start at second base on March 17 at Saint Mary's. Vitiello made his first career start in the outfield on April 21 at Siena, going 1-for-5 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Sophomore Season - 2008
In his first season with the Big Red, Vitiello made 24 appearances as a reserve infielder, finding himself in the starting lineup 16 times. Of those starts, 13 came at third base with Nathan Ford moving behind the plate. He picked up three hits in his first career start on March 2 against Siena, going 3-for-4 with a run and one RBI. He later went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and two RBI against Long Island on March 20. He also scored a pair of runs against Columbia on April 20, and went 1-for-5 with a run and one RBI against Princeton on April 25.

Before Cornell
Vitiello earned all-archdiocese first-team honors as a senior while leading Regis HS to a Bronx-Manhattan A Division title and third place in the CHSAA tournament. He was also named team most valuable player and was the captain of the varsity squad. In the summer of 2007, he played in the Frozen Ropes Collegiate Baseball team in the 23-and-under Westchester Baseball Association, posting a .600 batting average.

Personal
Gerardo A. Vitiello is the son of Philip and Joann Vitiello, and he has a brother and a sister. He is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
