Mat Martinez Career Statistics

At Cornell: Martinez saw action in seven games, making one start in goal for the Big Red during his junior season. He played a total of 175 minutes, posted and 8.25 goals-against average and saved 53.8 percent of the shots he faced. Martinez posted his first career win with a complete-game six-save performance vs. Harvard. He also posted a career-high nine saves in 30 minutes of action vs. Yale. Martinez saw action in three games during his sophomore season, playing against Binghamton, Penn and Dartmouth. He saw 21:44 of action, saved 63.6 percent of shots faced and posted an 11.04 goals-against average. Martinez made a season-high five saves and allowed two goals in 8:09 vs. the Bearcats and saw a season-high of 8:29 vs. the Big Green. Martinez was the Big Red’s back-up goalie during his rookie season, seeing action in 106 minutes over nine games. He made 12 saves on the year, stopping .480 percent of the shots he faced, while posting a 7.33 goals-against average. Martinez had his best game of the season during Cornell’s 9-8 victory over Army when he played 30 minutes and made a season-high four saves, including a last-second stop to preserve the victory. 

At Babylon: A four-year letter winner at Babylon HS, Martinez was a three year starter in goal for the Panthers. He was a three-time all-county selection and served as team captain as both a junior and senior. Martinez earned a gold medal with the Long Island team at the Empire State Games in 2006. He lettered four times in football, serving as team captain twice. He helped the Panthers’ football team to a 2006 Suffolk County championship as an all-county selection. He also lettered twice in track and field. 

Personal: Mathew Joseph Martinez is the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Martinez and has an older and younger brother. He is enrolled College of Architecture, Art and Planning.
