Biography

At Cornell
Freshman (2007-08):
Strong played nine games in net for the Big Red before missing the rest of the season due to injury. She finished her rookie campaign with a 4-2-1 record and made 157 saves. Strong made 17 saves to help Cornell win a 4-2 game against Vermont in her first collegiate start on Oct. 21. She recorded a season-high 30 saves in the Big Red’s 2-2 tie with Brown on Nov. 10. In her next three starts, Strong continued her stellar play in goal to help Cornell defeat Princeton and Quinnipiac, twice. She was named to ECAC Hockey’s all-academic team and was the freshman recipient for the Wendell & Francelia Earle Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

Prior to Cornell
Strong played for Team Alberta in the Canada Winter Games in 2007, and was the MVP for the Calagary Flyers last season. In 2006, Strong was named the top goaltender at the Macs Midget tournament and helped lead her team to a silver medal. At Central Memorial High School, she also played basketball and field hockey, where she was the captain her senior year and led her team to a Division I city championship and was named team MVP. Strong was the valedictorian of her senior class and was a Michael K Gee scholarship award winner.

Personal
Kayla Katherine Strong is the daughter of Doug and Laura Strong, and has three sisters and a brother. Her sister, Brianna, who plays field hockey for the University of Calgary. Strong is a student in the College of Arts and Sciences.
